The Embassy of Canada in Washington, DC was designed by British Columbia's Arthur Erickson, who is recognized as one of Canada’s most decorated architects. Erickson tried to evoke a sense of Canada in the architecture of the building, using long horizontals, wide open spaces and water features. This scene is shot from inside the large courtyard juxtaposes some of those long horizontals with the strong verticals of four masonry columns that support a glass pyramidal roof. To make things a little more interesting the western portion of the embassy casts a 45 degree angle shadow across the horizontals.
