While preparing my studio tonight for a headshot session I have scheduled for tomorrow I had to get a new light modifier I'd recently purchased and a boom I'd borrowed (thank you Chris Spielmann) all set up. The new modifier is the Westcott Rapid Box 24" Beauty Dish which is designed by world-renowned photographer Joel Grimes.
As I was wrapping up and about to head to dinner, Luke Catwalker jumped up on my posing stool as he's known to do, so I decided to knock off a few shots while he patiently posed for me. I'm not sure exactly when this started or why, but it's a behavior he started exhibiting four or five months ago. All I can guess is that he knows this is an area I seem to be focused on, and being a very social animal, he tends to follow me closely throughout my day. Perhaps this is just one of his ways to be the focus (literally) of my attention.
In this particular shot Luke was hunkered down in a low pose so his eyes didn't pick up the beautifully characteristic round catch light for which this beauty dish is known, but he did get a catchlight from the Westcott Eyelighter in the bottoms of his eyes.
